Can the Bears Beat the Colts?

The Colts are expected to beat the Bears by at least 30 points in this Sunday's Super Bowl Game. Yes, that's an exaggeration, but you wouldn't know it from what you hear and read in the news.

Every person I talk to says the Colts are going to spank them. They all say the game will be over by the fourth quarter. Peyton's going to destroy the Bears' weakening defense and Rex Grossman is going to show why he's considered "the worst Super Bowl quarterback ever." I don't like it. I don't like it at all.

First of all, that's what everyone was saying about us when we were getting ready to play the Kansas City Chiefs. They said our defense would get destroyed and the Chiefs would run for 500 yards. Then they said Baltimore's defense was just too good. Defense wins championships, right? That's true, but it was our defense that proved that point. Then of course everyone says we can't beat the Patriots in the playoffs, and we did.

So, I get a bit nervous hearing this junk about how we're just going to spank the Bears. That just fuels their fire and I'm sure they're going to come out playing with a chip on their shoulder and with something to prove.

The good news is that the Colts are smart enough not to blow this game off and think it's going to be easy. At least I hope they are. It's fun for us to say they're going to kill the Bears, but the players better not be thinking that.

Anyways, I'm super excited and starting to get nervous and I just wish I didn't have to work. Hope it's a good game. And by that, I mean I hope the Colts win. GO HORSE!!

The National Media Hates the Colts...

And they're not too fond of the Bears either.

I'm sure you've all heard how upset some of the media are about the Colts not arriving in Miami until late Monday (the Bears went down Sunday). That's upsetting enough for the media hordes who have gathered around the tip of northern Cuba (or southern Florida, however you like to look at it). But that's not the main reason they don't like the Indianapolis Colts (and Chicago Bears).

They don't like us because we don't have any megalomanic, egocentric, big-headed recievers. Marvin Harrison is not going to come out and guarantee any victories or come up with any fancy end zone celebrations. Partly because he has no idea where the end zone is during the postseason (which is fine with me, cause he still plays awesome), but mostly because he has character. Not only will he not act like a moron in front of the camera, he will avoid the media at all costs (it's news enough that he will be forced to talk to them. *see here)

And as much as we would all love to see local reserve officer Shaquille O'Neal chasing down Peyton Manning after a drug bust, that episode of "Armed and Famous" will never be seen.

You'll hear no guarantees, nobody will be disrespecting the other team, players aren't going to go Steve Jackson on us and fire shots outside of a strip club. And that sure makes for a boring week of news.

They hate the Bears too because Lovie Smith learned from the Master, and his team carries itself the same way.

It's kind of fun watching the media try to come up with an interesting story. You can tell they're really struggling. Seriously, just take a look at some of the national headlines. It's ridiculous.

I will now spend the rest of my day knocking on wood because I'm sure I've just jinxed the entire team and I won't be surprised to wake up tomorrow morning to hear that Edgerrin James led the entire team on an all night binge of drunken debauchery and they've all been arrested by Shaq and Tony Dungy will have to single-handedly play the Bears.

And he'll still win.

Now I'll knock for that.

Bob Lamey Highlights Are Finally Here!

Somebody finally put together a nice montage of Bob Lamey's broadcast from Sunday's AFC Championship Game between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots.

This clip is courtesy of Q95.com, WFBQ Indianapolis 94.7 FM. It's on their Mission in Miami page. It's definitely worth listening too and will definitely get you hyped up for the game.

It has the "he fumbled the frickin' football" touchdown. The infamous "Jeff Friday" (instead of Jeff Saturday). And his great call at the end with Lamey screaming "We're going to the Super Bowl!!! We're going to the Super Bowl!!!" It's an awesome clip. Thanks to Dust for finding it.

You can listen here

Here's a clip of "fumbled the frickin football." Unfortunately, it cuts off before Marchibroda's infamous "Jeff Friday" quote. Listen here.

American Soldier Cheers for the Colts!

My wife found this picture from IndyStar, with the following caption:

Christina Otsuka of Indy says this is, "Daniel Howe celebrating Colts victory over New England while recovering in Germany from IED injuries while serving in Iraq."

It's hard for me to imagine Danny Howe fighting in Iraq. I always picture him as the hyperactive little junior high boy who used to always get in fights with his brother.

On Saturday, December 30 2006, Daniel's vehicle was hit by an IED (Improvised Explosive Devise) in Iraq. He injured his legs, shoulder, neck and head. He suffered a stroke due to the head injuries. They took him to a hospital in Germany (where this picture was apparently taken) where they put him into a drug-induced coma. He's had surgery on an aneurism, skin grafts, a stint in his head, vision problems, and shrapnel in his head that damaged an area of his brain. From what I know, he's doing better now (relatively speaking) and has been moved to the US.

It's great to see Danny showing some Colts pride all the way over in Germany. I'm sure there are many soldiers who would love to be able to be back home watching the Super Bowl with family and friends. I'm truly grateful of the service they provide and need to remember how lucky I am to be here for all of this fun.

So thanks to all of our service men and women, hope you get to watch the big game. GO COLTS!!

Peyton Kills Bears!

I'm super busy at work this week, but I'm way too hyped to not throw in a few Colts things on the blog. Thanks to Big D for the pic. In case you didn't already know, Peyton Manning kills bears. See photo as evidence:

Even More Insane Line Rider Fun!

Watch Line Rider try to escape the clutches of an evil one-eyed giant. Line Rider rules! GO COLTS!

Voice of the Colts, Bob Lamey: "He Fumbled the Frickin' Football."

FYI: For those who haven't heard Bob Lamey's call on the Colts AFC Championship win, you need to make time to cacth this:

Radio replay
The local radio broadcast of the fourth quarter of the AFC title game will be replayed, commercial free, at 5 p.m. today on WFBQ-94.7 FM.

The best call of the game is definitely when Rhodes fumbles on the goal line and Jeff Saturday picks it up for a touchdown. Lamey gets all pissed and says, "He fumbled the frickin' football." Then seconds later he's screaming his head off when they get the touchdown. It's priceless. That call is early in the fourth, so be sure to tune it right at 5:00.

You've also got to hear his call at the end of the game. Even though I didn't listen to the broadcast during the game, I've heard it so much afterwards, that I will always associate those calls with that awesome Colts win.

*UPDATE: You can finally hear a few highlights from this broadcast here.

"This year, the horse is going to ride Paul Revere."

I just read about the best sign that someone made at the Colts vs. Patriots game. Someone had a sign that said, "This year, the horse is going to ride Paul Revere." Brilliant.

Bears Practice Suspended!

(Thanks to Boog for cracking this story)

Subject: Chicago Bears practice suspended

Chicago (AP) - Chicago Bears football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. Head coach LOVIE SMITH immediately suspended practice while police and federal investigators were called to investigate.

After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to the players was the goal line. Practice resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again...

GO COLTS!!!!

Yell...Scream...GO HORSE!!!

This is a photo of us in Illinois Sunday morning before the AFC Championship Game. We wore those helmets through downtown Indianapolis later that morning, going into restaurants and bars trying to get the city hyped up. Great times. GO HORSE!

"Act Like You've Been There Before"- Colts Fans Gone Wild

*An explanation of my feelings can be summed up in the following picture made by Shawn. It comes from his post featured here. If you've never heard of "all your base are belong to us" (I hadn't, and it's dang hilarious) click here. This picture rocks. You're the man, Shawn.

Sunday night, as we were crusing through downtown Indianapolis, screaming our heads off and acting like we'd just won our freedom after 20 years of slavery (emotional slavery from never winning a championship), we saw a group of dejected Pats fans walking by. After exchanging a few choice words with them, they came up to our van and said, "C'mon, act like you've been here before."

My immediate response was, "Hey Moron! We haven't been here before!" Not really, but it was something along those lines. I have the utmost respect for the Patriots and their fans and the organization. I hate their guts, because that's what you do when you have a big rivalry, but I really do have a lot of respect for them. So hopefully they'll forgive me if I get a little excited and act out of control when my team finally beats them in a huge game. Especially the way we beat them Sunday. What with coming from 18 points behind and all.

So this is my official apology. I'm sorry for this blog turning into a Colts exclusive for the past month or so. I'm sorry for spending virtually every waking moment thinking about the Colts and how each game may be played out. I'm sorry for driving around downtown with a bullhorn and heckling losers who came a long way to have their hearts broken.

There, I said it. Now... screw you. I'm going to continue doing the exact same thing I've been doing. And I guarantee if the Colts win the Super Bowl, I'll be even more ridiculous.

I mean, I've never been here before, so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to act. Instead of hugging strangers at 11:30 at night, maybe we were supposed to just give ourselves a pat on the back and go to bed? I suppose in New England they all sit around sipping tea while shaking hands and congratulating each other on another fine year of football. Dud! What happened when the Red Sox finally beat the Yankees? I'm sure Boston was very respectful to all the Yankee fans that night.

And you know what else? If they do it again next year, I'll be acting the same way. I don't care how many times I've "been there," I'm not going to change a thing.

So screw you and let me celebrate. Dangit! I'm hyped! GO COLTS!

Preach it Reggie!

Reggie Miller is already saying the Colts will crush the Bears. I really hope he's right, but dangit, I hate having everyone say that. It gives the Bears that chip on their shoulder, something extra to fight for (as if a Super Bowl ring isn't enough). Since it's ol' Reggie though, I love it.

"All the pressure is on Sexy Rexy," says Reggie. He also says, "It won't even be close. They're going to destroy Chicago. Destroy Chicago. It won't even be close."

You tell 'em Reggie. But I'll be dang pissed if any Colts players try talking smack. Leave that to the fans.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Chicago Bears: Super Bowl XLI

I, along with the entire city of Indianapolis, am recovering from one of the greatest games in Colts history. I am drained, exhausted, losing my voice, definitely don't want to have to work at all (for at least two more weeks), but ultimately, I am just amazed and excited.

You guys all saw the game, so I don't have to write much about how sweet it was. It was an amazing comeback, Peyton did awesome, our defense stopped two huge drives at the end of the game, and now we're left to bask in the glory for two more weeks. I will say that Reche Caldwell's bug-eyes freaked me out a little bit. He looked scared or something.

I'm sure I'll spend much time in the next two weeks talking about the game and the Super Bowl and all that fun stuff. But I just want to write down, mostly so I'll remember, how fun it was to watch that game with 20 or so good friends. We were so excited at the beginning of the game, then got entirely depressed. And then that second half comeback was probably the most fun I've ever had watching football. We were so nervous and anxious. After every touchdown, we got so excited and jumped around so much, we literally almost went through the floor of the house. Then when the game was over, we ran out into the streets to celebrate with random strangers. Then the phonecalls came from friends across the country. Oh man, it was awesome.

After that, a smaller group of us went downtown to join in the excitement. If you saw a van load of crazy fans, one of us using a bullhorn out of the sunroof, that was us. Downtown was incredible. I wish I had brought a video camera. I screamed my head off for like two hours, along with thousands of other fans. It was nice to see that there was no looting, or car flipping, or bonfires, or other such nonsense. Just a city celebrating something we had waited a dang long time to experience. I'll never forget last night. The whole game and experience was simply amazing and I'm just thankful for it. Wish all of my family and friends could have been here for it. Thanks to Rab for already uploading some photos from the night. I'll post a few, but you can view his whole photo set here.

This one was early on in the game, probably either before game time, or when they were losing.

This was probably during a defensive stop early in the game.

You already know what this was. I think I had tears in my eyes.

Go COLTS!: "Git 'er Dun-gy"

Well, the time has come. This will be my last post until after the game Sunday. I am so excited for this game, it's unbelievable. I'm all nervous and giddy. I can't wait.

There's nothing left to be said about the game. Hopefully it's a good one. Win or lose, I'm proud to be a Colts fan right now, so I guess that's what really matters. I keep thinking about the days when "Colts" stood for: Count On Losing This Sunday. Now we can be proud, proudly showing our pridely pride. It's amazing to see how excited this whole city is right now. I wish my brother could be here to see this (you too Ange).

So, enjoy this time, Indianapolis. It doesn't come around often. I hope we make it to the Super Bowl as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to forget how much fun it's been getting to this point. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. GO COLTS!!!

Indianapolis is Feeling Blue

Well, I can hardly stand it any longer. Sunday just can't get here soon enough. I'm so excited and work is going so slow this week. I can't believe I have to come to work tomorrow. It should be a city-wide day off, so everyone can go downtown for the rally and all the other fun stuff. Dangit.

The whole city is abuzz and bleeding blue. (Is abuzz a word? Who cares?) We're heading to Illinois on Saturday for a hockey game and planning on showing some Colts pride over there. Hopefully we're back home in time to catch that Bears game, then we'll somehow have to calm down enough to watch the Colts.

Anyways, I hope you all have something blue to wear tomorrow and this weekend. Here's a few fun things that the city has decided to do (from IndyStar.com:

1) Images of Manning and the Colts are to be projected onto the State Museum and other buildings this weekend.

2) Blue spotlights will be placed on top of Downtown buildings to light up the sky Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

3) The Washington Street bridge in White River State Park and other downtown landmarks, monuments and buildings will be bathed in blue throughout the weekend.

4) Banners will be hung from the RCA Dome, Downtown buildings and at the airport.

5) Indianapolis Fire Department trucks will fly Colts banners and flags.

-A full list of all the fun can be found here.

I can't get enough radio talk, online talk, articles, interviews, etc. This is driving me crazy. Maybe tomorrow I'll try to just not read anything or listen to anything and just focus on my work. Yeah, right.

Does a Successful Peyton Manning Career Depend on a Super Bowl Ring?

The answer to that ridiculous question is an emphatic "NO, FOOL!" while using your best Mr. T voice. I'm sick and tired of everyone saying Peyton can't win the "big game," and how if he doesn't win a Super Bowl, he'll never be one of the "greats." That's just ridiculous.

First of all, every game he wins is a "big game." The Colts wouldn't even be in the playoffs if they didn't have Peyton Manning. We're going to hear it over and over again, especially if we lose this Sunday. If you know anything about football, you know that's just absurd.

As far as these playoffs are concerned, Manning has played two great games. If you watched either game, you know that he made huge plays when we really needed him to. The story is definitely the defense and how they stepped it up, but to say that Peyton sucked (or anything similar) is foolish nonsense. Those were two of the better games I've seen him play, but that's not the point of this topic.

Peyton Manning has already done more in his career than probably 95% of the quarterbacks who have Super Bowl rings. You have to understand that playing football is his job. The National Football League is a business, and from a business standpoint, he's probably one of the most successful NFL players of all time. He puts money into his owner's pocket, the league's pocket, and his own pocket. That's success. Not to mention all of his endorsements.

Going beyond dollars and cents, he has completely turned around a franchise that desperately needed to start winning in order to establish a strong fan base. He's been the face of the Colts for a long time now and is a huge reason that we're selling out tickets and there's a waiting list for season ticket holders. He's done a lot for his community and for this city. He represents his team and this city with class and respect. Who cares about a dang ring?

Having said all that, you know people will always talk numbers and rings when they talk about successful players. It's fun for us to keep track of that stuff, cause we're fans and that gives the game a lot more meaning. According to those standards, Peyton is going to have to win a Super Bowl before anyone gives him the credit he's already due. But for people who really understand what he's already done, Peyton Manning is one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

And he better freaking win a Super Bowl before he retires. Go Colts!

1995 AFC Championship Game, Colts vs. Steelers: A Heart is Broken and A Fan is Born

All this Colts excitement got me thinking of the first time we were here. Hopefully we'll see footage of it, because I can't find any online(*edit: see link at end of post for video). I'm sure you can all picture it in your minds though.

The year was 1995, I was a freshman in High School and had recently received the news that my high school would be closed (since IPS sucks and can't manage money properly). Sports became a big part of that school as we watched our football and basketball teams make their final run at state titles (Heartbreak at Hinkle). I had recently vowed to sell all my baseball cards and never watch the game of baseball again, because of their strike in 1994. I was more than ready to have something to cheer for.

The Colts were about ten years removed from their infamous escape to Indianapolis. Indy was definitely still a basketball town, having watched Reggie and the beloved Pacers lose to the Knicks in the Seventh Game of the Conference Finals in 1994 (they would go on to lose Game 7 of the Conference Finals in 1995 as well). However, the Colts grabbed our attention and won our hearts by clawing their way to the 1995 AFC Championship.

Marshall Faulk was our brilliant running back. Floyd Turner and Aaron Bailey were our top receivers. The irreplacable and unstoppable Ken Dilger was our bruising tight end. Cary Blanchard was our kicker. And who could forget, the "Comeback Kid," the 1995 Comeback Player of the Year and AFC Player of the Year (and MVP runner-up), Mr. Jim Harbaugh. This ragtag group of white collar yeomen was led by coach Ted Marchibroda.

The Colts finished 9-7 that year, earning the fifth seed in the AFC, and their second playoff appearance since coming to Indy. They played in San Diego for the Wild Card game. An injury plagued Faulk led to the miraculous emergence of Rookie running back Zack Crockett. Crockett had only one carry in the regular season, but burned the Chargers for 147 yards and two touchdowns. The Colts pulled away in the fourth quarter, winning 35-20.

The divisional playoffs had the feel of destiny as the Colts went in to Arrowhead Stadium to play #1 Kansas City (8-0 at home) and knocked off the Chiefs, 10-7. The legend of Harbaugh was born and we found ourselves playing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. The only thing that stood in the way was the Pittsburgh Steelers. And a crappy controversial Steelers touchdown.

The score was 10-6 (Steelers lead) at halftime, after one of the worst calls in Colts history. Pittsburgh receiver Kordell Stewart blatantly stepped out of bounds before catching a five yard TD pass. Sure, it's debatable whether or not he was pushed, but I'm a Colts fan and I say he stepped out.

After trading field goals, Harbaugh threw a 47-yard TD with about 8 minutes left. That put the Colts up 16-13. With 3:03 left, Pittsburgh got the ball and after converting a fourth down, they got a TD to go up 20-16.

Harbaugh, the "Comeback Kid" had one last chance to pull off a miracle. He led the Colts down to the Pittsburgh 29, with five seconds left. Just enough time for the miracle of all miracles, the "hail mary pass." There was no doubt that it would work. The Colts had been making miracles happen all season. Harbaugh dropped back and launched it into the endzone. Aaron Bailey had a chance at it (see picture above), I say there should have been a pass interference call, but he missed it. Our hearts were broken.

The good thing is that a heart can only be broken if it truly loved and believed in something. My heart broke that day, but a true Colts fan was born. My heart has been broken by Indianapolis sports ever since. Washington High School went on to close, the Pacers continued to have their hearts broken by the likes of Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, and the entire Piston team. The Colts have continued to break my heart, year after year.

I hope it all ends this weekend. I really hope no Colts are stabbed in the leg by their spouses, I hope Peyton plays like Peyton, I hope Brady breaks his arm (not really, I don't want them to have any excuses), I just hope the Colts play tough and make us all proud. This city needs to have its heart mended. We need a championship for this generation, for these INDIANAPOLIS Colts. Until then, I will continue to wait, and hope...

Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots: Be Careful What You Wish For

Well, we all got what we wanted. As soon as we knew the playoff format, we were all rooting for New England. Here they come.

First of all, that game against San Diego was freaking insane. What scares me is that New England won in the sort of way that screams "destiny." That interception/fumble was ridiculous. Then they get the two point conversion. Oh my goodness, I would be sick if I were a San Diego fan right now. They did everything they could to give the Patriots the win. Including an idiotic challenge that wasted a much needed time out.

So anyways, here we stand, waiting for Brady and his 12-1 playoff Patriots. We come face to face with the demons of our past this Sunday. Peyton comes off two of his worst games ever, only to play the team that always seems to have his number come playoff time. Now, I don't really believe in all that mess, but you're going to hear it all week. Everyone will question whether or not Peyton can finally beat Brady in the playoffs. They will question if our defense can show up for a third week straight. Don't listen to all that crap. If you are interested in the game, listen to what Dungy, Polian, Manning, Brady, and Belichick have to say. They are the ones who know football. Listening to anyone else is like eating junk food. It's fun and all, but it's just nonsense.

I also don't like that people will pick us to win now. We've lost our under the radar "underdog" status. Anyways, I'm excited and will be thinking about this all week. Feel free to join in the fun. If you live in Indy, I sure hope you don't take all this for granted. We're fortunate to be here, so soak up all the fun now. Most of us are still old enough to remember being 3-13.

Colts are "Money" Against Ravens

I cannot express in words how awesome Saturday's game against the Ravens was. That was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen the Colts play. And Manning threw 0 touchdowns.

This was a game for people who really love football. Mostly defensive, where every little yard was hard fought and well earned. I can't remember the last time I was so nervous for so long. There's so much I want to say about this game, I just don't even know how to start.

I guess I'll start with Mr. Money; Adam Vinatieri. I would pay someone to put together this video clip: Start with Vanderjagt missing the field goal last year against the Steelers. Then show Manning and Dungy mouthing the words "he missed it," while shaking their heads. Then show Vinatieri's FIVE field goals from this year (ending with the 51 one yard bank shot). Then end the clip with Manning pumping his fists in the air and Dungy mouthing the words "Money...money...money..." If anyone finds that clip on Youtube or somewhere, you've gotta let me know.

I'm so excited right now. I'm not going to say anything else about the game. You all saw it. You know it was awesome. I can't wait for next week. I never thought I'd be cheering for the Patriots. Oh boy, I'm giddy. Anyways, the Colts are money and this should be a fun week here in Indy. Go Colts!

I'd Be Pissed Too: Why Baltimore Hates Our Colts

(March 29, 1984. Mayflower trucks move Colts from Baltimore to Indy by cover of night. AP photo)

Remember two years ago when the Colts were negotiating with the city of Indianapolis for a new contract/stadium? Imagine if they couldn't reach an agreement. Preted Jim Irsay told us that he was doing everything he could to come to terms and that we need not worry. The Colts weren't going anywhere (he probably actually said something similar).

Then imagine how you would feel if you woke up the next morning to find that he had moved Peyton, Marvin, Dwight, Edge and the entire team to L.A.? I belong to one of the first generations who have grown up watching the Indianapolis Colts. I have a lot of great memories and a bit of personal pride invested in this team. Had that scenario happened, I would have been pissed.

If you haven't read any of the plethora of articles coming from Baltimore that relate to their current grudge against Irsay and our city, I recommend you read up a bit. I can definitely understand how they could be so upset. At first, I thought, "Get over it." But here's the big thing that changed my mind.

It isn't so much that their team got moved, that's bad enough. And it's not that it was done in secrecy and Irsay lied or anything, although that sucks too. The worst thing about it is that we kept the horseshoe and the name. Look at other teams that moved. When Cleveland moved to Baltimore, Baltimore changed the name to "Ravens," and now Cleveland gets to keep da "Browns." They get all the history that comes with it. When the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee, Tennessee made it their own. When the L.A. Rams moved to St. Louis...okay bad example. But you get my point.

It's also interesting when reading about Bob Irsay and the way he ran the team. The guy was nuts. Here's a few quotes that I dug up from a 1986 Sports Illustrated article on Robert Irsay.

"He lied and he cheated and he was rude and he was crude and he was Bob Irsay. He doesn't have any morals. It's a sad state for the NFL to be associated with him, but beyond that I've removed him from my mind." -Colts quarterback Bert Jones

"I don't know how else to say this, but my brother tried to run my father out of business. Bob actually worked to try to destroy his own father. Oh, he's a real sweetheart, all right." -Ronald Irsay (Bob's brother)

"He isn't dumb. He has the innate intelligence of the peasant, but he is a churl. To borrow a phrase from Oscar Wilde, 'He knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing.' That's Bob Irsay." -Friend of 20 years

The best quotes of all come from his own mother:
"He stole all our money and said goodbye. He don't care for me."
"He was a bad boy. I don't want to talk about him."
"He's a devil on earth, that one." -Elaine Irsay

I'm glad we have the Colts, but I definitely feel sorry for those Baltimore fans who got shafted back in '84. You can read a few articles below to better understand how they feel. As bad as I feel for them, I sure hope their Ravens get smashed tomorrow.

Ravens Fans to Outsmart Peyton Manning?

I'm getting excited again for the game on Saturday. I just read an interesting article in the Baltimore Sun about how Ravens Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan is asking the fans to give his defense five seconds of silence before screaming their heads off at Peyton.

It's worth reading, so I'm just going to copy it here for you. I hope Peyton's ready for this one. It's going to be a tough game. And if Baltimore fans can actually do this, I would be very impressed. And scared. Here's the article:

"Ryan: Team's defense needs a few seconds of fans' time each play
By Edward Lee
sun reporter
Originally published January 10, 2007

Five seconds.

That's all defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is asking of Ravens fans who intend to create as much noise as possible to disrupt the rhythm of the Indianapolis Colts offense, which visits M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday in an AFC divisional playoff contest.

While acknowledging the need for as much crowd noise as possible to make it difficult for Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning to call an audible or make other changes at the line of scrimmage, Ryan implored Ravens fans to turn down the volume for just several seconds while the defense makes its calls to counter the Colts' formation.

"We have to have our system in place, and if the crowd can just hold on for about five seconds when they get to the line -- just kind of hang in there for five seconds, that way we can communicate with ourselves on defense -- and then pick the tone up the rest of the time, it would be great," Ryan said. "If we can do that, that would be great. If you forget, we'll live with it."

Ryan later seemed to suggest that the delay was necessary to prevent using too many hand signals, which, Ryan said, tend to get picked up and deciphered by the Indianapolis players and coaching staff.

"We're going to have to communicate because they're really good at figuring out your signals and things," he said. "But that would be great. If we could just pause for about five seconds, that's all we need, and then let them have it."

Linebacker Bart Scott endorsed his coach's request, adding, "We want Peyton Manning not to be able to hear a drop, not even hear himself think. So at 15 seconds [on the play clock], we want the fans to get it up so that we can do what we do and give them what they all want and get where we want to go as an organization and as a city."

Ryan's appeal is not surprising considering Saturday's matchup features the NFL's top-ranked defense in the Ravens against the league's No. 3 offense in the Colts.

"We know our fans are going to be jacked up, and that's going to be our 12th man out there, and it ought to be a heck of a game," Ryan said. "You've got probably the best offense in the league against the best defense. So they know they're the best offense, and we know we're the best defense, and we're going to be prepared. They're going to get our best shot, and we expect to get their best shot. So, we'll see what happens."

Are the Colts "Too Soft" for Baltimore?

There's an article in today's IndyStar that's worth reading. It shows how Baltimore is already talking smack about how they're going to pound the Colts. Actually, it's only linebackers Ray Lewis and Bart Scott talking, but I'm sure their whole team (and fans) is thinking the same thing. Here are a few of the quotes:
"I think it's going to be a painful day for Joseph Addai." -Scott

"I'm pouring this on Peyton this week." -Scott, while holding up a bottle of Tobasco sauce

"...no matter how many times Joseph Addai touches the football, he's going to be hit, bottom line." -Lewis

"You can be pretty all you want to. It's going to be a physical ballgame, no matter how you want to look at it. What this defense creates right now is it creates matchup problems for people, that we cannot be blocked." -Lewis

The article also references Joey Porter's (Steelers' linebacker)comments from last years playoffs. He also implied that the Colts were "soft."

"They don't want to just sit there, line up and play football...They don't want to play smash-mouth football...They can't say that finesse game is physical; it's clearly not physical. If they were a physical football team like that, they would just do what we do, line up and run the football. You know what I mean?" -Joey Porter

Of course, Porter is a moron who went on to say, "They [the Colts] want it to be a thinking game instead of a football game." But, as often happens when players talk trash about Indy sports teams (Rasheed Wallace?), the Colts made him sound like a genius.

I really hope this year is different. I hope Addai pounds the crap out of that ball and runs for 150 yards and two TDs. I hope our defense stuffs Jamal and knocks McNair around. Seriously, now more than ever, I really want the Colts to step up and play physical.

I don't think they're soft. I don't think you can say that about any team that does what the Colts have done. You can't win in this league if you're that soft. But at least for this game, I hope they beat the crap out of Baltimore.

You know Addai has read this junk and the rest of the Colts. I hope it just fuels the fire. I would love to see those cocky Baltimore LBs eat their words. Man, that would just be great. Please, please, play a good game this week Peyton. Watch Peyton's feet. If he starts getting too fluttery down there, you know he's in for a bad game. He's gotta stand tall and deliver. Now, more than ever, the Colts gotta play with a chip on their shoulder and win this game. (that's not true, but I just really hope they win)

The Honeymoon is Over?

Yesterday my wife and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary. It's hard to believe that a year has already come and gone. We both took the day off work and spent most of it eating.

She made a great breakfast: eggs, sausage, OJ, etc. We ate lunch at Judge's BBQ (if you live in Indy, like barbecue, and haven't been to Judge's, you're missing out). Then we gorged ourselves for dinner at Santorini's. The food was great, but we were way too stuffed to eat much of it. We'll be having leftovers tonight, I'm sure.

I've really enjoyed being married so far. I know lots of people who have said that their first year of marriage was the most difficult for them. That makes sense and seems obvious, but I haven't had that experience. We've definitely had some difficult times, but if this is the toughest year, then I can't wait to see what happens in the future. I hope it doesn't mean that the worst is yet to come.

Anyways, I'm just so thankful to have an awesome wife. We spent a few minutes yesterday writing down a few "goals" for the next year. This is something I never would have done in the past and yet another reason why I love my wife. She definitely excels in many areas where I am lacking.

One of my personal goals for the year is to try to make more of an effort to learn a bit more Spanish. She speaks it, and it seems absurd to me that I can't spend a little of my time trying to pick up on it. I'm not trying to be fluent or anything, but having a wife who speaks Spanish is something I could take advantage of. So, in an effort to keep up with this goal, we have vowed to only speak Spanish to each other while in the house together. Our first trial run will last until the Colts game this Saturday.

This morning I couldn't even talk about the crazy dreams I had, because I was having a hard enough time trying to explain that she was stealing all the covers last night. Unfortunately, I think my pantomime skills are advancing more quickly than my Spanish speaking skills. Oh well.

Anyways, I share this so you'll have some idea of how much fun I have and have had over the past year being married. It's a true blessing, I'm very thankful, and I'm excited to see what happens this next year.

God Bless You!

Know what I hate? First of all, I'm a double sneezer. My sneezes almost always come in pairs. Sometimes more, but rarely less.

I hate when I sneeze the first time and then someone says, "Bless You" before I can get the second one out. I don't want them to have to say it twice, so I stifle that second sneeze. There are few things worse than having to hold back a sneeze. Then I either end up blowing snot all over myself, making some weird noise in my throat (which is obvious to everyone that I was too embarrassed to sneeze and tried to hold it back), or force it out the other end which is never a good idea.

I think everyone should have to wait a solid three seconds before offering up a "Bless You." If you don't, it causes too many problems. Much like that Seinfeld episode.

Worry, Be Happy

I got to thinking today, which is always dangerous, and I was trying to figure out why I enjoy worrying. Specifically, I was thinking about the Colts game again and all of the different ways they could win or lose and what might happen. It occured to me that this is a huge waste of my time and brain power. But for some reason, I really enjoyed it.

Then I considered the many other things I worry about and have no control over. Before I was married, I used to spend lots of time thinking about who I would marry, if it was someone I knew, where we would live, etc. Now I worry about if someone is going to break into my house, if my wife will die before I do, if our kids will be born as blind torsos, and if I'll ever figure out what I actually want to do for a living.

Now, I'm not sure if worry is the best word to use here. When I think of worrying, it's usually a negative word. For some reason, when I'm thinking of all these things over which I have no control, it's not the same kind of worry. I get an anxious feeling in my stomach and start imagining exactly how things would be and what I would say. For some reason, I enjoy doing this. I spend a lot of time imagining things that may or may not happen, and most of them are completely out of my control.

Why would I waste my time doing this? I have no idea. Maybe it's easier than thinking about things I can actually change and control. I'm reminded of Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. He talks about your sphere of influence or something like that. I definitely spend a lot of time outside that sphere. What's weird to me is that I like thinking about that stuff for some reason. Why the heck is that?

It seems like I could be way more productive and influential if I would spend my time thinking about things I can actually do. Whatever. I have no idea what point I'm trying to make out of all of this. I just hope the Colts win tomorrow. That's all. Go Colts!

Colts Fans: Win Trip to Super Bowl!

The Colts are promoting the launch of a new social networking website by offering a chance to win a trip to Super Bowl XLI. The name of the site is MyColts.net. I haven't spent too much time looking at it, but it looks like MySpace for Colts fans.

In order to be eligible, all you have to do is register for the site and answer a brief survey. If you're interested in registering, you can do that here. Good luck. Go Colts!

More Reasons Colts Should Go To Super Bowl

Sorry for all the Colts crap, but I'm getting nervous about Saturday and can't stop thinking about stuff. I'm one of those guys who still think the Colts have a chance and I think they've played a great year (considering the injuries we've had, but all teams go through that).

Disclaimer: This post is going to be boring, so unless you're like me and can't stop thinking about Saturday, you should spend your time reading something more worthwhile. I suggest this.

If you didn't know, the Colts have the highest opponents rating (.500) of all the playoff teams. If you look at the two teams seeded above the Colts (Baltimore and San Diego), you can see that the Colts had a tougher schedule. Not really, but I'm going to point some things out anyways, just to get it out of my head.

If you look at our schedule, we've already beaten four playoff teams. We also beat Cincinnati, Denver, Tennessee, and Jacksonville. If we lose those games, any one of those four teams could be in the playoffs (Jacksonville probably still wouldn't have made it because they lost head-to-head to KC). So that's essentially eight wins (half of the season) against playoff caliber teams. Two of those teams we had to play twice, and lost the second time around. The other loss was to another playoff team. The fourth loss was just gay.

Out of Baltimore's 13 wins, only three came against teams with a winning record. Out of San Diego's 14 wins, only four came against teams with a winning record. Out of Indianapolis' 12 wins, five came against teams with a winning record. This proves absolutely nothing, except that the Colts lose to teams they shouldn't (like Tennessee, Jacksonville, Houston, and Dallas).

Baltimore lost to Denver and Cincinnati, two teams that we beat. So that means we should be better than Baltimore. And since San Diego lost to Baltimore, we can obviously assume that the Colts are also better than San Diego. It's undeniable logic.

Ultimately, the Colts can beat any team in this league on any given Sunday (or Monday, or Saturday, or Thursday). Unfortunately, they can also lose to any team in this league. Let's just hope they show up to play on Saturday. One game at a time. Should be fun. I'll try not to write anything else about it till after the game.

TriPong: Three-Player Ping Pong

I haven't found anywhere that actually explains how the game is played, but apparently someone has finally invented a way for three people to play ping pong at the same time. He calls it TriPong.

Secil Boyd built a whole new table for three people to play. From reading the article, it sounds like there's some level of teamwork that has to happen in order to beat the other two players. I really have no idea how it works. If you find out how to play, please let me know. I think ping pong is fun enough with two or four players, but I'd love to try this game. We'll see how popular it gets.

I think it would be sweet if there is still a way to play normal ping pong as well. And if it's possible to have six players play on teams. We really need more information on this.

A link to the article is provded below.

Colts in the Super Bowl?

I know it's not likely that the Colts will make it to the Super Bowl this year. But like Dungy always says, we're not just going to stop playing. So I'm going to hold on to hope and believe that it's possible. I don't think they can win in Baltimore and then in San Diego. I guess they could, but it's highly unlikely. So here's what needs to happen.

We need to keep Larry Johnson, and the Chiefs as a whole, at or under 150 rushing yards. We can't lose the turnover battle. We can't let them run any kickoffs past the fifty, and hopefully will keep the majority of those around the thirty. Then we should win that game.

Then we need New England to go into San Diego and unleash some magic on the Chargers. Brady can show Rivers what veteran leadership can do in the playoffs. Then we need to go into Baltimore and play a perfect game. Our defense needs to hold their offense to field goals only and our offense needs at least two touchdowns.

Then we get the next home game against New England where we finally do to them what they've done to us. Then it's on to roll over whichever team comes from the NFC. Man, when I look at it that way, I don't see how we won't make it to the Super Bowl. Anyways, I'm looking forward to this weekend. I hope it's an exciting game and that the Colts at least play their best. It's okay if they lose, as long as they don't make stupid mistakes and play poorly. It's been a fun season to watch, no matter what happens. Go Colts!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2007. Another new year. I've never really done much resolution making, or reflecting on the past year. I'm not sure why I don't, but I just don't. It is weird to think about where I was a year ago and everything that has changed. I'm sure this next year will be full of even more changes. Such is life.

Friday, Dust got married. It was a lot of fun and the food at the reception was amazing. They served filet mignon with a butter knife. It could have been cut with those sporks we used to use in grade school lunches.

Saturday was camp and we played our first, and probably last, ten man game of Monopoly. It was fun, but a bit too much. The highlight of camp for me was playing football in the rain on Sunday. I can't remember ever playing in that kind of rain and it was awesome. We were soaked and muddy and felt like real manly men.

The Colts won, which was great news. I missed the game, so I'm not sure if we played well or not, but I'll take the win. If we can hold Larry Johnson to about 150 rushing yards next week, we should beat Kansas City (along with no turnovers and no special teams touchdowns).

It was a great way to ring in the new year. I definitely missed my wife though. Speaking of which, I came home Monday to find that she had cabin fever of sorts (or something). She decided to renovate our bathroom and change the color of the walls. I love my wife so much. We'll leave it at that.
